web development services

HTML and XHTML

Although paperlamp is a young company, we've been around the Web a long time. We were developing websites when commonplace things like CSS and Javascript were little more than buzzwords. We know HTML, the foundation of the Web, backwards and forwards. We could code with our eyes closed. A quality website that performs well for you, your users, and in search engine listings, begins with quality HTML. We don't write it any other way.

CSS

CSS might just be the most powerful tool on the Web. Like any powerful tool, you want to see it used correctly. We're up to date on the latest standards, well versed in browser compatibility workarounds, and able to to combine HTML and CSS in such a way that any page can receive a complete facelift by simply changing its stylesheet. That means your site doesn't just look good in Firefox and Internet Explorer - it degrades to something usable for a tiny cellphone screen and its message comes across clear when it's viewed by a search engine.

Javascript, DHTML, and AJAX

AJAX may be the Next Big Thing, but the question of how to interact with users quickly and transparently is anything but new. We can implement Javascript in your site to help users find what they need, give them instant results for simple actions, keep information current, or just enhance the site's appearance. Equally important is that we know how to make Javascript fail gracefully, so it's always optional and your site performs perfectly without it.

ASP.NET

Microsoft's .NET framework is a big improvement over its predecessor, ASP. ASP.NET is object oriented, which makes it ideal for big, complex projects or for websites that plan to keep growing. Within .NET we've dealt with web services, conversion to other document types (such as PDF and Excel), handling graphics and video, and of course connecting to data sources. We can deliver almost any kind of backend code you need.

Java, JSP, and JSF

There are many ways to use Java on the Web. JSP is the oldest framework, and JSF is a newer, cleaner way of doing the same thing. Java has always been object oriented, and so it offers the same advantages as .NET in terms of its scalability and maintainability. Because of Java's close ties to the open source community, it offers the additional advantage of not requiring the use of tools and servers from one vendor, but offers many options as far as how it's built and delivered. paperlamp's experts built a custom JSF library, and we're more than equal to the task of providing the code for your Java project.

SqlServer and MySQL

A dynamic site is nothing with out its data, and the data is a nightmare without good database design. We're highly fluent in these two very popular relational databases and we can make sure your database is set up to work efficiently and grow easily.

Flash and Actionscript

Though it's been abused in the past, Flash is an incredibly powerful tool for a website needing to interact dynamically with its users. Flash can be used to create highly usable mini-applications that run in about 95% of browsers, letting users interact with your website as though it were a desktop application.

XML and XSLT

XML is a very reliable way to move data from place to place. Because it is lean and self describing, we find it used in all corners of the Web. We're highly comfortable with XML, and so may be able to save you money and time by being able to differentiate between things that require a database and things that can be easily handled by XML.

Graphic design

We believe the best design for most websites is one that remains in the background, echoing the tone of the text content and subtley conveying an impression of who the site's owner is. For this reason, our designs - whether for sites, logos, or other marketing materials - tend to be simple. All our design is built to work on the Web, and the Web really wants to be simple, so that the things people use it to say can shine through. Our design work uses the same philosophy.

Technology consulting

There are some questions Google can't answer. When you have technical problems with your website, intranet, or anything else that involves the Web, we can provide you hourly consulting and help you get your problem solved. From basic troubleshooting to helping you hire the right person to be your full-time tech consultant, we have the knowledge and experience to answer your needs.

Web marketing

Marketing your website is tricky business. There are a million places you could advertise, but you want to make sure you're spending money where it will help your customers find you. We know a good deal about how people find different types of websites and from search engine optimization to general Web strategy, we can help people find yours.

Project management

We firmly believe that any project that takes more than a week requires qualified project management. You may have the best army of coders in the world, but with no general to lead them, your web project will inevitably become stymied and frustrated. We know how to help you make the best use of your resources to make your Web project the success it should be.
